Port said port was founded at the time of digging the suez canal in 1869 aiming at offering services to the ship that cross the canal and to handle its goods and passengers. On april 9, 1980 act 88 of 1980 was issued to set up the port said general port authority followed by the issuance of the presidential decree 565 of 1980 that determine the specialities and responsibilities of this authority.

GEO-NATURAL DESCRIPTION OF THE PORT: -

1. The port is able to receive ships of containers and common goods with sinkage point until 42 feet and cereal ships with sinkage of 38 feet.
2. There are 16 pavements with total capacity of 4 million tonnes per year.
3. The port gives distinct tariff for goods of transit and imports.
4. The port is provided with general free zone for storing activity.

 POTENTIALS AND CAPABILITIES OF THE PORT :-

Containers station in the port with power reaching 220000 equivalent per year. This station allows the ships to be moored until sinkage of 12.8 meters (42 feet). It has a unique location and is marked by 24 hours work a day i.e 365 days annually with international average rate in handling the containers.the port is able to handle the common and packed goods, which is treated in the following groups of locals:-

1. First pavement group of common goods with rate of 210 tonnes/day.
2. Second location group of common goods with average rate of 525 ton/day.
3. Multi-purpose location group : with handling rate of 745 ton/day.
4. In addition to an equipped pavements ready to receive ships of rollers.

There are two centers for unlading the ships carrying cereals with load up to 60000 tonnes with sinkage point of 11.6 metres (38 feet) and daily loading rate of 4 to 7 thousands tonnes/day for each. It can pack the cereals with capacity of 3000 tonnes a day.port said port is  regarded as the ideal port in the region for use as a center of handling transit goods. 1. Fishing motor ships in Port-Said are 270 M/S its horse power are 30-85 h/p most of it work on Red Sea.
2. Dinghies and skiffs are 500 work on Manzala lake, Mediterranean sea coast and Suez Canal.
3. Fishing licenses are 4500 licenses.
4. Invested capital in fishing sector of Port-Said is $ 20 Millions.
